Motorists traveling on Highway 9 through Downtown Alpharetta should expect heavy delays this afternoon and this evening.  Road closures and adjacent streets and heavy pedestrian activity will be present due to the annual Taste of Alpharetta.  The event draws more than 40,000 visitors to downtown each year.

Road closures went into effect at 5:00 a.m. Thursday and will remain in effect until 5:00 a.m. Friday. The closures effect the following streets:

·         Milton Avenue between State Route 9 and Wills Road

·         Roswell Street between Old Milton Parkway and Milton Avenue

·         Canton Street between Milton Avenue and Church Street

The city is encouraging commuters to use alternative routes and avoid Highway 9 in the area.  Suggested alternatives include Westside Parkway and Ga 400.
