Even cold, windy and rainy weather couldn’t stop Kenny Selmon from adding to his championship collection at the state boys’ track and field meet in Jefferson May 4.

The Pace junior braved the elements to win his second consecutive title in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.58 seconds as well as claiming the 110 hurdles at 14.76 in the Class A private school competition.

“He had good performances,” Pace coach Jolie Cunningham said. “They were not his [personal-best times]. But, considering the weather conditions, there weren’t a whole lot of [personal-best times] going on [that day]. He ran great.”

Selmon’s dominant performance at the state meet capped off a memorable junior season in which he went undefeated in both hurdles events.

Selmon qualified for the state meet with wins in the 110 hurdles (14.73) and 300 hurdles in the Class A sectionals at Landmark Christian April 27 after winning the 110 hurdles (15.08) and 300 hurdles (38.89) at the Region 5A meet at Strong Rock Christian April 18 and 19.
