She wanted something that was “100 percent girl,” she said — something her 11-year-old and 4-year-old daughters could enjoy. Even the older girl, who has a bit of tomboy in her, had her birthday party on the grand opening day.
Sweets ‘N Dreams is a bakery, specializing in cupcakes, cakes and cake pops, but there are parties, as well. Girls become princesses for a day, whether it is a birthday, bat mitzvah or other occasion. Each party package accomodates eight girls.
For a spa party, the girls gather in a waiting room and get leopard-printed robes, then move into the manicure and pedicure stations — which are miniature pink chairs and white tables — and the teenage “Dream Team” pampers them. They can also have their hair styled in the spa area.
Move on to the bakery. The girls become chefs, baking cupcakes and decorating them with their favorite color icing and mounds of sprinkles, preparing to build cupcake towers before the formal dining hour.
For those groups who are older or are less interested in spas and baking, Hayes-Moore created the game room with “American Idol” karaoke or “Project Runway” T-shirt design stations.
Parents can take advantage of free nights by sending their children to the shop’s movie nights, complete with beanbags, popcorn and treats. There is cotton candy and face-painting as well.
The shop is lined with signs featuring messages such as “Divas Wanted” or “You’re Fabulous.”
Hayes-Moore has incorporated her own family into the daily operations. Her brother and sister are her employees and her mother bakes every morning.
“This is something my girls can grow up around,” she said. “They both love coming to the shop.”
In order to create her family-centric store, Hayes-Moore had to learn how to be a business owner, which meant gaining permits from the city and county, remodeling the space and turning daily operations into a profit. She is still brainstorming more party packages to increase profit and make girls’ days memorable.
