Harrison Butker saved his best for last as he finished his memorable athletic career at Westminster.

The senior provided the only goal Westminster’s boys’ soccer team needed in its 1-0 victory over Calhoun in the Class AA final May 18.

Butker scored off of a corner kick from Trey Blasingame with about seven minutes left in the game to give the Wildcats their third consecutive state boys’ soccer championship.

Best known for his outstanding performance as a kicker on the Westminster football team — earning a scholarship to Georgia Tech in the process — Butker has also played an important role on the school’s boys’ soccer team as well as its boys’ basketball squad.

While primarily a defensive player at the center back position, he led the Wildcats in scoring this season with 14 goals and one assist.

“In terms of what he has meant to the team this year, he has been our everything,” Westminster boys’ soccer coach Scott Snyder said. “He has had the largest single impact that a player has had in our program in a given year. He pretty much put our team on his back and willed us to win in games where the other team had more talent. He was a great player in word and deed, and I was able to constantly point him out as someone who all the other players should be trying to emulate.”
