The graduates were presented with several academic, athletic and community service awards, including the AJC Senior Cup to class valedictorian, Simon Hirschorn. Hirschorn, along with students Laura Lanier, Desi Levan, Evan Roberston and Mariah Barnes, gave speeches during the ceremony.
The graduating class has 12 HOPE scholars, who will attend schools such as Brenau University, Georgia Gwinnett College, Queens University, University of South Carolina and several others. The students’ scholarships and awards for the class totaled more than $487,000.
The 300 friends and families who attended the graduation were also address by executive director Jacque Digieso. Digieso acknowledged the attendees who had made sacrifices for the students to stay at The Cottage School.
The class of 2013 is the 28th graduating class since its opening in 1985, providing academic achievement, life skills management and career preparation ever since.
