A Dallas man died after reportedly falling out of his boat and the craft running him over Sunday morning on Lake Allatoona in Bartow County, a Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman said.

Robert Timothy Lewis, 52, was pronounced dead soon after the incident near Allatoona Landing.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources conservation rangers responded to the report at 10:30 a.m., said department spokeswoman Melissa Cummings.

Lewis was rescued from the water by state emergency personnel and private residents. Bartow Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to an area hospital. A Bartow County deputy coroner confirmed his death.

Early reports indicated the victim possibly falling out of the vessel and the vessel then running him over, Cummings stated in an email. The vessel circled with no operator at full throttle until it ran out of fuel, she stated.

DNR officials removed the boat from the water and will be part of the investigation by the department's Critical Incident Reconstruction Team, she stated.

Agencies responding included DNR rangers, Bartow Fire and Rescue, Bartow EMS and Lake Allatoona Corps of Engineers rangers.
