Residents will have a chance to enjoy bluegrass music from 10 different bands at the annual Raccoon Creek Bluegrass Festival this weekend in north Paulding County.

This is the 39th year the festival has been held, said Wendell Hardy. His in-laws created the annual occasion and now Hardy and his wife, Rene Hardy, have taken over the job of organizing it.

“It has always been family run,” he said.

The festival is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, rain or shine. Music is scheduled for Friday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 1 to 10:30 p.m.

Cost is $10 for Friday’s performances, $20 for Saturday only, or $25 for the weekend. There is a campground section which has been completely reserved. Hardy said they have attendees request the same spots every year.

The music will be performed by bands from about five different states. Scheduled acts include Barbwire Bluegrass; Heartfelt Grass; Trinity River; Frances Mooney & Fontanna Sunset; East Dixie Boys; Cherokee Cutups; Breaking Grass; Old Mill Road Band; Heartfelt Grass and Lonesome River Band.

Also there will be some craft vendors and concessions, Henry said.

“It is a unique event in a sense,” he said.

Hardy said they anticipate between 600 and 800 people throughout the weekend at Raccoon Creek Music Park, located at 332 Music Park Path about seven miles north of Dallas. For more information visit
