In a news release, the Sandy Springs Police Department Wednesday announced Sophie Lorene Adams, wanted on charges of exploitation of the elderly and theft by deception, was taken into custody Tuesday at the Fulton County Jail after surrendering to authorities there.

Adams is charged with fraudulently taking $35,000 from an 82-year old Sandy Springs man earlier this month after she convinced him she needed the money for cancer treatments. After the story was reported in the media last week, investigators received additional calls Adams may be connected to additional victims in metro Atlanta. Investigators are working to confirm that information. No hearing date has been set at this time.
