On Aug. 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the Fulton County Department of Water Resources will host a public meeting to discuss a proposed modification to its water conservation rate structure.

The department is proposing to modify the existing two-tiered water conservation rate structure to a single rate of $5.80/1000 gallons for irrigation only systems pursuant to the requirements of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s Water Supply and Water Conservation Management Plan. If approved by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, the new single-tiered irrigation rate structure would go into effect beginning on Oct. 1.

Since the 2007 drought, Fulton County has had a period of delay on the installation of irrigation meters. According to the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s Plan, any local water provider that currently offers and/or has active irrigation meters must establish an irrigation rate of a minimum of 200 percent of the base water rate, which for Fulton County currently is $2.90/1000 gallons.

Fulton County staff will be present during the meeting to discuss the project details and to address any concerns raised by the public. The meeting is at the Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Commission’s Water Facility at 9750 Spruill Road in Johns Creek.
