Despite much discussion in recent months following Yahoo’s decision to remove its telework program, a recent study in metro Atlanta shows telework is booming and 64 percent of managers believe it provides their organizations with a competitive advantage.
During Georgia Telework Week, the campaign’s Georgia Commute Options partners and Deal are educating employers about the continued growth of telework and its role as a workplace strategy. The campaign is a downtown Atlanta-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the city’s air quality through programs such as carpooling and mass transit.
“Our team has worked with more than 250 employers to implement formal telework programs that help increase worker productivity, and save on overhead costs,” said Mike Williams, director of employer services at the campaign. “We’re pleased to join Gov. Deal to raise awareness about telework as a viable business strategy and the free resources available to support it through Georgia Commute Options.”
During Georgia Telework Week, the campaign is hosting two free Telework Summit events to provide new ideas and guidance for employers looking to implement a formal telework program, tune up their existing program or expand on the success of their current efforts. There will be seminars in Gwinnett County and the Perimeter Mall area. The Perimeter event will take place at the InterContinental Hotels Group’s Americas office, 3 Ravinia Drive, Suite 100 in Dunwoody, Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. Those interested in attending can sign up at www.GACommuteOptions.com/Telework.
“New research shows that employees with flexible work options like telework are more engaged in their work and, therefore, more productive,” said Tedra Cheatham, the campaign’s executive director. “It’s one thing to hear the stats, but come out to one of our Telework Summits and hear from real-life employers in the region who have had success implementing a telework program.”
During Georgia Telework Week, the campaign and its partners are asking employers to visit www.GACommuteOptions.com/Telework, learn about the resources available to support this business strategy and register to attend a local seminar event.
