Cass head football coach Rick Casko said his team is ready to get the season started so it can begin reaching its goals for a more successful season than 2012.

“The kids are working hard. We have a great group of kids. They’re having fun, working hard,” Casko said.

Aside from one week of optional workouts after graduation, the Colonels have been working out and preparing for the upcoming season since school got out.

The team has been doing workouts three days a week, getting time in the weight room as well as on the field focusing on their specific positions.

Casko said the camps and workouts this summer helped to develop “very strong” leadership as the players have grown together and bonded more.

Finishing 5-5 in 2012 and having 10 returning starters on offense and eight on defense for this season, Casko said the Colonels are working to get better at what they’ve already been doing, stressing physicality and getting stronger.

Cass will have 18 seniors this season and Casko said the team is a “hungry bunch” — hungry for victory.
