The Wolfpack finished the season with an 8-4 record, making it to the second round of the state playoffs in head coach Scott Jones’ first year with the team.
With 96 varsity players, 28 seniors, eight returning starters on offense and eight more returning starters on defense, Jones said they ended last season “on a good note” and this season should be good as well.
“Going in you set goals; you go one at a time. First goal was to have a winning record, we accomplished that. The second goal was to make the playoffs. Then have a long run in the playoffs. I felt really good about what we accomplished,” Jones said.
Focusing on working hard and investing time in the weight room, the Wolfpack did a lot of camps and seven-on-sevens to make sure the players and the coaches would be ready for the new season.
With school back in session, the season opener is only a few weeks away — Aug. 30 at region rival East Paulding. Jones made it clear that he and the team are ready to play someone other than themselves.
“We’re ready to compete. It’s been a long time since the last game,” he said.
As for the team’s goals this year, he said it would “take it one game at a time.”
“Our goals are the same as last year. [Last year’s seniors] helped set the stage for this year. They left their mark but now it’s time for the 2014 seniors to make their mark,” Jones said.
