Josh Rogers started his final high school cross country season with a couple of strong performances.

The Pace senior won the varsity boys’ race at the Covered Bridge Invitational in Roswell Sept. 7 with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds, only two weeks after starting the ’13 campaign with a runner-up finish (16:49) at the Our Lady of Mercy Invitational in Fairburn Aug. 24.

“Josh has had an excellent summer training program and so he’s hit the ground running — no pun intended,” Pace boys’ cross country coach Steve Cunningham said.

Rogers was an 11th-place finisher in the Class A private school boys’ race at the state meet last fall and placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run and fifth in the 1,600 run for the Knights at the state track and field championships last spring.

“He has made steady progress from his freshman year,” Cunningham said. “After his sophomore year, he decided he would concentrate on his running and train through the winter rather than swim for the swim team, and that has paid dividends for his track season and he’s just gotten stronger.”
