Haley Collins has been a big reason for the success of the Holy Innocents’ volleyball team this season.

The sophomore outside hitter had recorded 33 aces, 265 kills, 218 digs and a .216 hitting percentage going into last Thursday’s game with Westminster to help lead the Golden Bears to the top of last week’s Class A state poll.

Collins came through with 16 kills and 22 digs to help the Bears come from a 2-0 deficit in sets in a 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 27-25, 15-9 victory over North Springs Sept. 12. She also had 12 kills in a 25-14, 25-18 win over Fellowship Christian Sept. 10.

In addition to her all-around skills, Holy Innocents’ coach Taylor Noland said Collins also brings a strong competitive intensity to the court.

“Haley is a fireplug,” Noland said. “She’s very intense and she’s hard working. She makes her presence well known on the court. Even though she’s undersized, she makes up for it in other aspects. She plays hard.”

Collins is a year-round player as a member of the A5 Volleyball Club.
