Competing in Rockmart in the Run at the Rock Sept. 7, Robinson took first with a time of 16:54.51. On Sept. 17 he took first again with a time of 16:44.14 in the Paulding County Cross Country Championship at White Oak Park.
In the county championship, Robinson defended his title from last season and set a new personal best for himself and a new Hiram High School record.
Head coach Russell Brand said, “I knew Jacob was in for a very good season this summer and his first meet at Run at the Rock at Woodland High School, where he placed first in a photo finish race to the end, confirmed that Jacob, as long as he stays healthy, will have a special year this year.”
Brand attributed Robinson’s success this season to harder workouts and the experience he gained last season.
“His workouts and training are well beyond what they were last year. This time last year, Jacob was running 40 miles a week; now, he is running 60 miles a week. He is a very nice young man who shows up early every day and consistently runs with desire and toughness,” said Brand.
Robinson is interested in running in college, but is currently focusing on improving his time even more, striving for the low 16s.
