North Paulding’s girls’ cross country team won its first county title and the boys its third consecutive title at the recent Paulding County Cross Country Championships.

The Wolfpack runners made head coach Michael McGuire proud as they made history for North at the meet at White Oak Park in Dallas Sept. 17.

“As a whole I thought the runners performed outstanding. I was really proud of every single one of them. It was great for both teams to get the win. It was the third in a row for the boys and the first in school history for the girls, so both wins were important to the program,” said McGuire

On the boys’ side, North won with 32 points, followed by East with 54 points, Hiram with 57 points, South with 82 points and Paulding County with 139 points.

For the girls, North won with 22 points, followed by East with 41 points, Paulding County with 73 points and South with 99 points. Hiram only had three runners and was ineligible to qualify for a team score.

While North Paulding’s teams finished first overall, the first-place individual runners on the boys and girls sides came from different schools.

Hiram senior Jacob Robinson came in first on the boys side for the second year in a row with a time of 16:44.14, nearly 23 seconds faster than second-place finisher Michael Williams of South Paulding with 17:07.07.

East Paulding junior Allyssa Sheffield came in first for the girls with a time of 20:12.22, almost 40 seconds faster than second-place finisher Ashley Taylor of North Paulding with 20:52.53.

Williams and Taylor both placed second in last year’s county championship as well.

Junior varsity runners competed in a mixed 5K race. North Paulding’s boys and girls swept the JV races, with the Wolfpack boys and girls winning the team honors and eighth-grader Savannah Watkins and sophomore Jake Hills winning individual honors.

Watkins finished with a time of 22:12.58 and Hills finished with a time of 18:32.60.
