Druid Hills finished last season with a 4-6 record and narrowly missed the postseason. However, if sophomore quarterback Michael Scott can continue his torrid start to the 2013 campaign, the Red Devils will most likely not suffer the same fate as in 2012.

Through three contests, Scott is tied for the DeKalb County lead in touchdown passes with eight and second in passing yards with 528. He has also been efficient with the football, throwing only one interception and contributing 136 yards rushing.

“Michael is a versatile athlete who is a courageous player with the ball and has a unique skill set of running and passing,” first year Druid Hills head coach Mark Adams said.

The Red Devils began the season with a resounding 47-13 victory on Aug. 30 over Clarkston. After dropping its second game of the season against Chamblee, Adams had 237 yards passing and two touchdown passes in Druid Hill’s comeback 34-28 victory over Therrell, pushing the team’s record to 2-1 on the season.

“The Therrell game was a slugfest where you need a quarterback like Michael who’s composed,” Adams said. “Therrell had the lead and possession of the ball with less than three minutes to play. Our defense was able to cause a turnover and Michael led us into a position to get the game-winning touchdown.”

Scott has been a statistical leader for the Red Devils’ offense but his contributions to the program go beyond the field. “Michael is hard-working, dependable, has impeccable attendance and has become one of our strong leaders,” Adams said.

Druid Hills will return to action on Friday at Lovejoy.
