Tucker’s Nuba Jackson has become one of the most consistent runners in DeKalb county, consistently placing in the top-five of every cross country race she’s entered so far in the 2013 season.

Jackson earned victories this season, both during meets at Druid Hills. The first win came on Aug. 27 on a time of 21:57.54, leading the Tigers to the team competition win. The other victory was on Sept. 10, winning the race in 22:39.57.

In her last meet at Arabia Mountain, Jackson earned second place on Sept. 17.

“Nuba is a hard worker on and off the field,” head coach Roxie Griffin said. “She has embraced running.”

Jackson’s primary sport at Tucker has been women’s basketball, serving as a main contributor to a Tigers’ squad that made the state quarterfinals last season. “Nuba started running to help with basketball but I’ve been encouraging her to run to help with the sport,” Griffin said. “She’s also one of the top academic performers at our school.”

Nuba, along with her twin sister Naima, has helped the Tigers begin the cross country season strong with the squad hoping to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish in the region meet.

“We’re still building as a team and the kids are coming out and working hard,” Griffin said. “The coaches have been motivating the runners and we’ll have a good shot of making the state meet.”
