The new design includes new food vendors, modern décor and features, energy efficient LED lighting, banquet-style seating with built-in work stations that include charging stations for laptops and electronic devices and an increased seating capacity to 485.
“We’ve been requesting it [renovation] for the last couple of years and it wasn’t until recently when we had executive management come down and tour the property did they also grant us approval for the renovation,” said John Liu, mall marketing manager.
Liu said the entire process took about a year and a half from approval through renovation. It also included renovation to the escalators, which Liu said he is happy they were able to complete before the holidays.
“Some of the comments we received on the food court were that it looked dated and old,” said Liu. “It wasn’t very modern, so we changed it from an aesthetic standpoint.”
Functionality was also important in the design, which is where the new charging stations come in.
“Our shoppers are very tech savvy, they’re connected and very professional,” said Liu. “We have a lot of daytime workers here so we wanted a space to make sure we have enough seating that provided charging stations.” Liu added that certain seats were also strategically placed to offer more privacy, if needed.
A few of the highlights of the renovation are the new food vendors — Cloud 9 Cupcakes, Fusion of India and Chipotle, which is the first in-mall chain in the state of Georgia. Liu attributed the Chipotle addition to the mall’s leasing team who he said is aware of the latest food trends and expectations of shoppers.
Outside of the food court, shoppers will be able to experience free Wi-Fi throughout the mall towards the end of this month. A few cables have already been installed and Liu said this new tech addition will be a huge hit for mall customers.
There have been discussions to continue the renovation trend throughout other wings of the mall, but Liu said they will make that decision next year. Any possible construction would not begin until around 2015 or 2016.
