Crowds are expected to gather on Tucker’s Main Street for the fourth annual Taste of Tucker Oct. 19, from 1 to 6 p.m.

The event was started by Art and Karen Wood in order to have a showcase for restaurants in the Tucker area and provide funds for a community charity. The idea for the festival came to the Woods when they co-chaired an event, Music Under the Stars, at their church as an outreach to the community.

“Art had been suggesting the addition of a ‘taste of’ event and four years ago we made that addition,” Mrs. Wood said. “Our goal was combined — to reach out to the community that we love while also sharing our faith with the community. While the event has seen changes over the past few years, the reason we continue to do the event has not changed.”

Since the event is growing, it will encompass a block of Main Street, from First Street down to the railroad tracks this year. Restaurants will line the block with 10-by-10 decorated booths.

“We are moving to Main Street for two reasons,” Mrs. Wood said.

“First we outgrew our other location and because Main Street is truly the heart of Tucker and we want to be at the heart of our community.”

The proceeds of the event will go to NETworks Cooperative Ministry. Wood said they choose this ministry since it is based in Tucker and works with families in the area. It helps to provide housing and utility assistance, more than 28,000 pounds of food and works with 17 churches in the area.

Restaurants participating in the event were given the option to have either 100 percent of their profits go to the charity or 50 percent.

Besides the food, there will be live music as attendees walk around the event.
