The junior has followed up her stellar 2012 campaign, which earned Nichols a spot on the All-Region first team, with another exemplary season in 2013. She has a .433 batting average with 19 RBIs, five doubles and three triples. On the base pads, Nichols has stolen 21 bases.
“Katie has been leading our team offensively and as a defensive standout at shortstop as well,” Blessed Trinity head coach Jan O’Donnell said. “She has a strong work ethic and consistently strives to play her best. Our team depends on her a lot offensively and defensively.”
The Titans have suffered more losses this season than average and even endured a five-game losing streak in September. However, they still finished undefeated in Region 6-AAA play and host the region tournament this week, placing the team in prime position to return to the postseason and continue to quest to win the school’s second state title, with the first one coming in 2007.
“Our region tournament is going to be a tough battle,” O’Donnell said. “We hope to win our region championship and stay poised for a strong postseason run and another trip to Columbus.”
