“Davis trains hard every day and recognizes that it’s not enough to just do his best in races,” head coach Rick Barbe said. “He does his best every day.”
Earlier this season, Stockwell also won the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational in September, placed fourth at the Aubrae Gunderson Invite and finished 14th in the prestigious Wendy’s Invitational in Charlotte.
Davis helped lead the Vikings to the region 6-AAAAA championship last season by finishing first in the meet and placed a respectable 18th at the state meet as well.
“Davis has become our top runner last year after the region championship and hasn’t slowed down since,” Barbe said. “He has really stepped up as a team leader as well, not only leading by example but also by supporting and encouraging his teammates.”
The Vikings have also improved throughout the season, finishing second in the team competition at the county meet and won the Carrollton event as well.
Lakeside’s next meet will be at the Coach Wood Invite in Gainesville on Oct. 19 before defending its region championship at Druid Hills Middle School on Oct. 26.
