Roswell Business Alliance becomes Roswell Inc.

The Roswell Business Alliance is no more.

Its executive director, Steve Stroud, officially killed it off Monday night with an announcement of a new entity, Roswell Inc.

“The RBA is no longer, as of tonight,” Stroud told Roswell city council members.

Along with a new name and a new logo, Roswell Inc. comes with the tagline “Building Business, Connecting Community.” Stroud said the tag is more indicative of what the organization does.

“We are the umbrella organization for economic development in Roswell,” he said on Tuesday morning. “We’re escalating our economic development opportunities and beginning to market in bigger markets. This name change allows us to be perceived as above and beyond a Roswell merchants association.”

The new look will be implemented over the course of the next few months and will be in full effect when the organization launches a new website at the beginning of 2014.

Stroud said since its inception as a marketing agent for the city, the alliance mission has been expanding.

“Part of our goal was to grow up and be the real deal,” he told council.

In July of this year, Roswell outsourced its economic development efforts to the alliance and handed it a Strategic Economic Development Plan prepared months earlier for the city by a consultant.

Stroud said the alliance whittled the lengthy document down to a tightly focused plan that best met the city’s needs. This is the economic road map that Roswell Inc. intends to implement over the next few years, he said.

The name Roswell Business Alliance is limiting “as we get new and bigger partners” Stroud said. Rebranding as Roswell Inc. “is an image thing that takes the organization to the next level.

“Originally tasked to be the city’s marketing arm, we have now been tasked again to be its economic development driver. It’s a great opportunity for our organization.”

The “connecting community” aspect of the new brand will be demonstrated by a commitment to building a community of stronger businesses “and the right kind of businesses, which goes hand in hand,” Stroud said. “”We also will make sure the businesses we serve will be connected to and give back to the community.”

Whatever name the organization chooses to use for its operation, city officials pronounced themselves pleased with its progress since its creation in 2012.

“You continue to exceed all expectations. Your organization is phenomenal,” Mayor Jere Wood told Stroud.

Councilman Jerry Orlans agreed. “You’ve come a long way and done even above and beyond what we thought would happen,” he said.
