Paulding County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. Ashley Henson said the hunter, who was not identified, was scouting an area where he planned to hunt this season when he stumbled on the remains Friday around 12:53 p.m.
Responding deputies immediately called in crime scene investigators from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Once the scene was cordoned off, detectives began to scour the area to search for any other pieces of evidence.
Detectives are unsure as to the identity of the individual but are checking with surrounding jurisdictions about persons reported missing. The remains will be analyzed by the GBI Crime Lab to
determine the cause of death, if the death was a homicide, and how long ago the death occurred. The Criminal Investigations Division of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone that may have any information to call the Sheriff’s Office at (770) 443-3015.
