“As soon as you walk in, you’ll feel like you’re not in a chain pharmacy,” she said. “We’ll just give more personalized service. In our pharmacy, we have a consult room so we can meet with our patients and go over their medications personally … Our pharmacy is going to be somewhere where you walk in and we know your name.”
Shannon’s husband Michael takes care of the business side of the independent, family-owned pharmacy, which is named after their oldest daughter Lily. The couple added a second daughter, Abby, to their family two months ago.
Shannon recalls a time shortly after Lily was born when her husband had to drive 40 minutes to a 24-hour pharmacy to get medications following her emergency surgery. She said he first stopped by a local pharmacy but was sent away because it was about five minutes until closing time.
“I thought pharmacists are supposed to do better,” Shannon said. “We can do better.”
Lily’s Pharmacy will have a 24/7 emergency contact line so patients can reach a pharmacist at any time of day. Some of the pharmacy’s other convenient services include a drive-thru and free delivery within a five-mile radius.
Besides Dr. Shannon, pharmacist Jenna Ferrara will work at Lily’s. Ferrara and Shannon met while working as professors at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee.
“Both of us are residency trained,” Dr. Shannon said. “A lot of pharmacists aren’t residency trained. We have a different clinical perspective we can bring to pharmacy services.”
She said her specialty is primary care while Ferrara’s is infectious diseases. They plan to stand apart from other pharmacies by establishing connections with their patients’ doctors.
“We want to actually know their physicians and providers and keep a good circle of care,” Shannon said.
Though Lily’s Pharmacy will open at the end of the month, a celebratory grand opening is planned for the beginning of December.
The pharmacy’s hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
