Whyte was the Lady Ram who rose to the occasion, winning MVP of the Red Senior All-Stars in a 15-3 victory over the Blue on Oct. 28 at Lakeside.
“I said one of you is going to get MVP,” Hoxie said. “I told them to just do what they are supposed to do and let everything else work itself out and it did.”
“I was excited about that and glad I did get it,” said Whyte, who set a record with five RBI on three hits.
Smoot surrendered one hit and three runs.
To cap her softball career at Arabia Mountain, Whyte batted .453 with 24 hits, 16 RBI and 26 runs this past season.
“She’s been an excellent player for me all four years,” said Hoxie, who also felt Whyte improved as an infielder last season.
“I like the quickness you have to have to play in the infield,” Whyte said.
As far as college, Whyte, who has a 3.0 grade-point average, is still unsure which school she will attend but she does want to continue playing softball. She also plans to major in sports medicine.
