The Atlanta International standout finished with a time of 19 minutes, 15.03 seconds to place third in the Class A private school girls’ race.
She finished behind champion Kathryn Foreman of Landmark Christian (18:42.18) and runner-up Taylor Tuttle of Providence Christian (18:51.97), who each had the two fastest times among girls in all classifications at the state meet.
Williams earned her trip to Carrollton by finishing runner-up with a personal-best time of 18:09.96 at the Region 5A meet at Our Lady of Mercy in Fairburn, breaking the old Atlanta International girls’ record mark of 19:46 set by Lindsey Sanborn in 2009.
It has been a memorable freshman year for Williams, who finished in the top three in all six of her races.
“Her runs at the beginning of the season were over 20 minutes for the 5K [3.1 miles],” Atlanta International coach John McCusker said. “But with training, an always positive and cheerful attitude and support from her teammates, she made great strides in a short period of time.”
