Been avoiding Roswell’s historic district rather than fight traffic in the hunt for a parking space?

Larry Weissman feels your pain. That’s why he created a pedicab service to help you win the Canton Street parking battle and get you where you want to go.

“My wife, Bonnie, and I moved here to raise our two children, Michelle 29, and David, 27, 28 years ago. We simply love Roswell and all that it has become,” he said.

“We admire all that has happened on Canton Street, and recognized that some people, due to the parking problems, may not stop to experience all that Canton Street and the area has to offer.” Parking spaces are at a premium near the shops, galleries and restaurants on the south end of the street, but there’s plenty of parking across Ga. Hwy 9 at Roswell City Hall. Yet many people either aren’t aware of that lot or don’t want to make the walk from city hall. Thus was born Roswell PediCabs, owned by Weissman, which uses “pedal power” to ferry people around the district.

It was his son who came up with the idea to connect the remote parking lots, especially the ones around city hall, with Canton Street using pedicabs, Weissman said.

“This way people could park for free, and we could provide a great experience that would not only provide transportation but add to the ambiance that has been created around the restaurants, galleries and shops,” Weissman said. Two pedicabs are already on the street and a third will be in operation by March 1. The cabs will be on Canton Street and the surrounding historic areas every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from noon until 11 p.m.

“We may expand hours based on demand. We can work other days based on appointment,” Weissman said.

People can call or text (770) 330-6254 and a cab will pick them up. The cabs will also be visible in the area and can be hailed by a customer. The cab service does not charge a flat fee, running on tips only for those regular hours. “However, if patrons desire to reserve us, the fee will be based on time and distance and will start at about $20,” Weissman said.

In honor of his father, a World War II vet, Weissman said veterans will always ride for free.

New Kent Capital, which is headquartered on Canton Street and owns a number of properties there, leases a parking lot on Green Street which is for use by the customers and employees of New Kent tenants Nine Street Kitchen, Table & Main

and Osteria Mattone.  It is also being utilized as a staging area for the pedicabs.

“Larry is a long time friend and as a sales/marketing genius, he has a way of dragging his friends into his mad science projects,” New Kent CEO Doug Curling said.

“We’re in favor of anything that adds to the character of the district.  I see pedicabs frequently on my travels, so why not give it a shot here. Larry’s certainly excited and in many ways on Canton Street that’s enough of a spark to get the merchant community to line up and support the idea.”

Weissman said the pedicab service provides a luxury experience and at the same time, offers an eco-friendly transportation alternative that makes it easier for people to visit establishments on both ends of Canton Street.

There are also Southern Trilogy site tours of Roswell’s three historic museum homes for those who either don’t want to walk or are looking for a different experience.

“Going forward to hope to serve the wedding facilities and special event facilities as well,” Weissman said.
