North Paulding’s Stephanie Peters has continued her strong form for the swimming team as her two relay teams, the 200 medley and 200 freestyle, posted times good enough at the first meet of the season at Mountain View Aquatic Center in Marietta Nov. 15 to qualify for the GHSA State Championships.

“Stephanie isn’t only a strong swimmer with natural ability, she’s a team player by helping new swimmers and demonstrating proper techniques and support during practices,” Paulding head swim coach Kaitlin Woods said.

Peters currently holds the state record for the mile, 1,000 meters and is the defending state champion in 500 meters which she won last year as a junior. She has been with the Wolfpack swim team since its inception four years ago and has seen positive changes.

“We started off with five swimmers from North and now we have more than 20,” Peters said. “It’s been good to see it grow and more people qualify for state every year.”

The upperclassman is a member of the Student Government Association and National Honor Society. She will join her sister, Courtney Woods, as a member of the University of Georgia swim team next fall.

“UGA has a strong distance program and I’ve known the coaches for years,” Peters said. “It’s a perfect fit.”

Peters plans to major in animal science and minor in nutrition while attending UGA.
