In the Wolfpack’s dominating 35-7 home victory over Stephenson in the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs on Nov. 22, Townsend put on a historic defensive performance, gaining four interceptions in the win.
“Throughout preparations for that game, we saw that the receivers were running shorter routes,” Townsend said. “I played closer to the receivers than normal and I got the interceptions through good practices, coaching and teamwork.”
Townsend is enlisted in the Marine Corps, has begun training while still attending high school and will begin boot camp upon graduation next spring.
“I’ve always been interested in the military and want to work with a special forces unit,” Townsend said.
Wolfpack head coach Scott Jones said, “Brandon is a testament to why kids should be diligent in their efforts and continue to work hard.”
“He earned a starting position and contributed at a high level. I feel real safe as an American because he’s the real deal.”
