Aaron Winchester has been the driving force behind Mount Pisgah Christian’s drive to the Class A private school state football semifinals.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound junior quarterback provided all the scoring for Mount Pisgah in its 40-7 first-round playoff victory over Pacelli Nov. 22, scoring six touchdowns – five of them passing – and throwing for 179 yards.

“He’s a real spark for us,” Mount Pisgah coach Mike Forester said. “He was dead on in this game. He really kept [Pacelli] off balance. We started a little slow, but he really picked us up and played a great game.”

Winchester went on to lead the Patriots to a 15-7 win over Holy Innocents’ in a quarterfinal contest last Friday -- completing 15 of 24 passes for two touchdowns, while rushing for 147 yards on 24 carries.

It has been a breakthrough year for the second-year starter, who also competed 20 of 42 passes for 247 yards and four scores in Pisgah’s 28-24 win over Mount Paran Christian Oct. 25.

“We wouldn’t be here [in the state semifinals] without him,” Forester said. “It’s not just about his athleticism. It’s about his will to win, his discipline, his leadership. With all those things, he’s just been a spark for us week in and week out.”
