After losing a number of key players from last year’s state quarterfinal team, Alpharetta is expecting big things from Brittany Outlaw.

The 6-foot-4 senior center, in her second season at Alpharetta after transferring from St. Francis, certainly lived up to her promise with 31 points and 17 rebounds in the Lady Raiders’ 70-27 victory over Heritage at the Parkview Thanksgiving tournament in Norcross Nov. 25.

Outlaw’s formidable presence under the basket is among the many things she brings to the team, according to Alpharetta coach Natalie Vuoriaho.

“She definitely has height and athleticism,” Vuoriaho said. “She brings size to us on the court. She is really learning how to post up really well. We’re looking for her to go up against the other centers and to be an inside presence on defense as well.

“Rebounding is one of the things she brings to the team. She really works hard in practice and that’s a huge plus. I have a few players who really work hard on defense and offense every practice and every drill I do. Those are the players who continue to improve and get better and she’s definitely one of them.”
