Ethics watchdog Bill Bozarth, a Buckhead resident, has announced his candidacy for the District 54 State House seat.

Bozarth, who served as executive director of the watchdog group Common Cause Georgia from 2002-10 before re-tiring, is running as an independent. Incumbent Edward Lindsey, R-Atlanta, is vacating the post to run for the District 11 U.S. House seat, which is being relinquished by incumbent Phil Gingrey, M.D., R-Marietta, who is running for retiring U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ position.

Bozarth announced his candidacy Nov. 15, though he said in an email he planned to run for public office after retiring from Common Cause Georgia but was waiting for the right opportunity. Four Republicans — Beth Beskin, Loretta Lepore, John McCloskey and Angelic Moore — and one Democrat — Bob Gibeling — have already announced they are running for the District 54 seat.
