Selina Kelete has been a key performer for the Holy Spirit Prep girls’ basketball team since her freshman season.

The 5-foot-6 senior guard/forward has played a big role in the early part of the 2013-14 season as well, leading the Lady Cougars with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals a game.

Kelete got the season off to a strong start with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in Holy Spirit Prep’s narrow 43-38 loss to Crown Athletics Nov. 12.

She also had 19 points to lead the Lady Cougars to a 48-27 victory over Grace Baptist Nov. 19 as well scoring 18 points in a 46-36 defeat to Heritage Christian last Tuesday.

Kelete, who is the team captain, has been a GISA All-Region 1AAA selection each of her first three seasons.

“Since she’s been a 10th-grader, she’s been my [main] offensive threat,” Holy Spirit Prep coach Jada Jordan said. “She anticipates on defense to get steals. She’s quick and fast. Teams pretty much play her in a zone, because nobody that we play typically has anyone who can stay with her. She gets to the basket with ease. She kind of does what she wants when she has the ball.”
