“My dad always reads the newspaper in the morning at 4 a.m. before he goes to work,” Beasley said. “He told me he went straight to the All-Region teams but didn’t even think about the Players of the Year and he was upset that I didn’t make the All-Region team.
“So just for giggles he scrolled up to see all who made it and he said he yelled, freaked out and woke up my mom when he saw me as Lineman of the Year,” Beasley said.
Beasley was just as surprised and in disbelief when he found out a few hours later.
“He made me go to the computer and look at it and I just felt like I was still dreaming because I never thought something like this would happen,” said Beasley, who is 6-foot-2 but weighs just 200 pounds. “It’s such an honor for me to win awards like this because of my size.”
Beasley played right tackle this past season for the Chargers and would like to continue playing football at Berry College or Shorter University.
“This award is all because of the teaching of coach [Jonathan] Gess,” Beasley said.
