Kobi Simmons made a big splash in his freshman season at St. Francis last year, leading the Knights to a runner-up finish in the Class A private school state tournament.

With that year of high school basketball – not to mention a stint on the USA Developmental Team last summer – under his belt, the 6-foot-5 point guard is stepping to the forefront once more as he gets his sophomore season under way.

Simmons is leading the team in scoring with 17.1 points per game and is also among the leaders in assists (4.9) and steals (2.0).

He scored a season-high 28 points and had seven assists in St. Francis’ 90-83 victory over King’s Ridge Christian Nov. 22 and had 21 points, seven steals and six assists in the Knights’ season-opening 76-37 win over Paideia Nov. 15.

He also had 16 points in St. Francis’ narrow 63-62 loss to four-time defending Class AAA champion Miller Grove Dec. 14 and 15 points in a 65-42 win over Mount Pisgah Christian Dec. 13.

Last year, Simmons averaged 14.3 points, 3.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and two steals a game in the Knights’ drive to the Class A private school finals.
