Senior guard Michael Hemphill has helped lead Paulding County to four wins through Dec. 27, averaging a team-high 17.6 points per contests and nearly three assists per contest. He scored a season-high 30 points with five assists in the Patriots’ season-opening victory over Johnson (Gainesville) on Nov. 16. In a 58-55 region victory over South Paulding, Hemphill notched 27 points along with a season-high eight rebounds.

“I’ve improved my shooting this season which makes me a bigger threat on offense,” Hemphill said. “Last year I was only able to attack the rim. We also pass the ball well on the perimeter along with quickly moving up and down the court.”

Hemphill has taken on the additional leadership role that comes with seniority. “It can be tough at times but I love being a point guard leading the team.”

He played for the FCI Warriors AAU team based in Atlanta this past summer, leading the team to national tournaments. Hemphill said math is his favorite subject and plans to major in electrical engineering upon entering college next fall.

The Patriots will return to action in a home contest Friday against East Paulding.
