After only earning 15 wins last season, the Douglas County boys’ basketball team has returned to form this year as one of the top programs in the state with 13 victories through Jan. 20. The Tigers’ revival has been led by senior Justin Bridges who is among the team leaders in several statistical categories, averaging 11.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.

The two-sport athlete also had success on the football field this past season, grabbing a team-high 24 receptions and three touchdowns.

“Justin brings leadership and scoring ability to our team,” basketball head coach Hollis Bethea said. “His football spirit to the team has also been good.”

Bridges seeks to bring the entire team together for overall success.

“I’ve become more of a team player by passing the ball and getting my teammates going in the game,” Bridges said. “Our defense has played well, especially when we work together on the press which gets us points on the board and stops the other team.”

Bridges’ upperclassman status means more responsibilities for him on the team.

“I’m working on being a good example for the younger guys and being a leader,” he said. “I’m trying to guide them in the right direction to get ready for the region tournament and state championship because we’re going for it this year.”

Bridges plans to major in business or music engineering upon entering college.

The Tigers return to action Friday against Westlake.
