When Dutchtown sophomore center Kamera Harris is on the court, opponents have to respect that their best chance of scoring will be outside of the paint.

Harris, who is listed at 6-foot-1, blocked 10 shots in the Lady Bulldogs’ 68-50 home win over Henry County last Saturday.

“She is really our X-factor,” Dutchtown coach April Tate said.

“Normally, coach Tate always talks about how I always have to be ready to help because I know that sometimes my teammates will get beat so I always try to help out,” Harris said.

Harris turned away six shots in the first half but finished with just two points and four rebounds. However, Tate said she realizes those last two statistical categories will get better with time.

“Everybody knows she is going to block shots but right now we need her rebounding to catch up with blocking shots,” Tate said.

“It is great playing with her,” said Tiara Scott, who had 20 points and 19 rebounds against Henry County. “She is always there. If you need help she is there.”

Like her favorite player Brittney Griner, Harris is already getting attention from Division-I programs such as UNC and Georgia Tech.

Even though she had to wait two hours after a game this summer, Harris got to take a picture with Griner.

“It was one of the happiest days of my life,” she said.
