The Atlanta City Council at its meeting Monday approved authorization of the Perry-Bolton Tax Allocation District (TAD) bonds.

The Perry-Bolton/northwest Atlanta TAD was established in 2002 to redevelop more than 500 acres of underdeveloped real estate. District 9 Councilwoman Felicia Moore, who represents that part of the city, helped organize the TAD.

“The purpose of the TAD is to attract taxable redevelopment opportunities to the Perry-Bolton area,” she said. “I’m really excited about this and updates regarding how we will move forward with approved projects are forthcoming.”

The Perry-Bolton TAD has at least four projects under construction.

In other news the council passed legislation authored by Moore requesting the city auditor’s office perform an internal audit of the safety and security office of the Department of Watershed Management. She is calling for the security audit after several reports of thefts. Thousands of dollars of equipment including an $80,000 backhoe have disappeared.

“Watershed has encountered significant losses in the last 12 months due to a lack of security measures,” Moore said. “We need to find out how to stop this from happening again.”

Over the past several years, the city has spent millions of dollars on security relating to loss prevention, vulnerability of both network and physical environments, inventory control or the implementation of sound internal controls.
