Heritage Sandy Springs and founders of the Sandy Springs Farmers Market announced Tuesday the market will be organized and managed by Heritage, effective immediately, and will henceforth be known as the Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market. Heritage is a nonprofit preserving and promoting the city’s history and culture.

“Heritage Sandy Springs is a perfect fit for serving as the presenting organization of the farmers market,” said Andy Bauman, who co-founded the market with Jeff Langfelder and had planned this move for about two years. “The organization already embodies the spirit and culture of our city. I think the market will not only be sustained by Heritage Sandy Springs, but that Heritage will be able to take the market to a greater level.”

Said Heritage board President Phil Beeson, “The Sandy Springs Farmers Market is a cultural touchstone for the city of Sandy Springs, bringing fresh product directly to our residents and visitors, but more importantly, serving as a wonderful weekly gathering event that contributes meaningfully to our community. The sense of community created by the market corresponds with Heritage Sandy Springs’ mission of building community through preserving and promoting the historic and cultural identity of Sandy Springs.”

Heritage Executive Director Carol Thompson added, “We are proud to continue the success of the Sandy Springs Farmers Market. Sandy Springs was originally founded as a farming community, so in many ways this wonderful weekly community event will celebrate the roots of our community’s history.”

For the 2010 through 2013 seasons, the market was located at 235 Sandy Springs Circle, in the parking lot of the former Target store.

As part of the city’s master plan, in January the city began demolition of the former Target building to begin development of the new downtown area. As a result, the market will be relocated for the 2014 season.

It will open April 12 at the lower level of the Parkside shopping center on Sandy Springs Circle, across from Lake Forest Elementary School. This location is easily accessed by MARTA bus lines and offers a centralized location not far from the market’s original site.

The market will run every Saturday, April through November, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Each Saturday market features live music and nearly 50 vendors offering an abundance of fresh, local produce, along with pasture-raised meat and pork products, farm-fresh eggs and dairy products and a wide variety of prepared foods.
