The foundation is not going airborne, but is using the county’s Silver Comet Field as the backdrop for its “Casino Royale” fund-raiser, beginning at 7 p.m. at the airport off Rockmart Highway.
Foundation director Amy Mollohan said the event has proven popular with those seeking to show support for the county school system.
“Definitely, it’s brought together the community as far as Paulding County Schools,” she said.
Gas South is the presenting sponsor for the event to benefit Paulding Education Foundation, which works to assist the Paulding County School District by awarding grants and scholarships to students and schools.
The black tie optional event will feature prizes such as a four-night, airfare-included trip to the Beaux Rivage Resort on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and five nights at a beach house on St. George’s Island.
She said her group chose the airport’s terminal building because it was a large venue and allowed the group to use an outside caterer, which will give organizers more funds for the program, she said.
A master of ceremonies will help guide participants to the various games, and they will use play money to win prizes, Mollohan said.
“At the end of the night, you can turn in your play money for raffle tickets,” she said. “We have about 20 raffle prizes available so the attendees will be able to [turn those] raffle tickets in and we’ll select the winners right then.”
Winners will drop their tickets in baskets for each prize, and winning tickets will be pulled, she said.
“Everybody who participates has an opportunity to win one of the prizes,” she said. Each ticket will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a drink ticket, entertainment, play money and a chance to win the grand prize and other major prizes.
The foundation’s new advisory council – including parents and business representatives who help the foundation organize events – originated the idea for a casino fund-raiser, she said.
School system officials and some elected leaders have said they will attend, she said.
