‘Royale’ raises $12,000 for education foundation scholarships, grants

The community showed March 8 to support public schools at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport as close to $12,000 was raised to benefit the scholarships and grants of the Paulding Education Foundation. .

The “Paulding Casino Royale,” presented by Gas South, featured casino-style games, a live and silent auction and raffle to a four-day trip to the Beaux Rivage resort in Biloxi, Miss.

The winner of the grand prize raffle to Beaux Rivage was Jayna Joiner of Metroderm, while 15 people walked away with other raffle prizes valued between $75 and $200. The silent and live auction featured many additional prizes with the St. George Island beach house donation from Kim Cobb drawing the most participation. As bidding grew higher and higher, Cobb added another week to her donation, allowing two winners. This high ticket item brought in two winning bids of $1,100 each.

These funds raised from the event will be available for grants that focus on technology in schools for the upcoming 2015 budget.

The committee of volunteers was headed up by Jim McMichen and included Kim Cobb, Paulding Board of Education; Kristen McNally, SOHO Acworth; Lydia Hallmark; Mike Serge; Dr. Cliff Ostrow, Braincore Therapy; Rebecca Cooper, Credit Union of Georgia; Megan Weldon, Liberty Mutual; John Grant, AT&T; Judy Mazzeo; Carmen Prather, Gas South; Sandy Kaecher, Aflac; Dan Schultze, First Citizens; Kimberly Blackmon, UnitedHealthcare; and Lokin Crook, Paulding County School District.

The Paulding Education Foundation fundraising spring calendar includes these additional events:

- Paulding Night at the Hawks - March 18 at Philips Arena. Tickets still available, starting at $10 and include access to the courtside fan tunnel.

- Paulding 5K Pep Rally Run/Walk, March 29, at the Silver Comet Trail.

- Flair and Flavor of North Paulding, May 3. Festival featuring student performers and local food held at Cedarcrest Church to benefit the foundation and North Paulding Band Foundation,

- Teacher of the Year, May 6.

The Paulding Education Foundation, founded and incorporated in 2006, is a private, non-profit, organization dedicated to promoting excellence in education in the Paulding County School District. The foundation currently manages 16 local scholarships and provides yearly grants to local schools.
