Newcomer Khai Anderson has brought a spark to the Riverwood lineup early in the 2014 season.

The junior, a transfer from Carver of Atlanta, led the team as of last Wednesday with a .640 batting average — providing speed on the basepaths as well as strong hitting from the leadoff position.

Anderson went a perfect 4-for-4 with two walks to help lead Riverwood to a 27-4 victory over Osborne March 6.

He also went 3-for-3 with three singles and a run scored in the Raiders’ 5-4 win over Lakeside of DeKalb County Feb. 27 and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in an 8-5 loss to Sequoyah March 4.

Riverwood coach Max Gertz said he is impressed with the overall ability Anderson brings to the lineup.

“He’s one of the fastest players I’ve seen,” Gertz said. “He beats out ground balls and he hits balls over the center fielder’s head. He has been a huge boost in center field, making plays, and he’s a great leader on the field, taking charge of what needs to get done. Overall, he has been a huge addition.”
