South Paulding track athlete Aaron Jones had one of the most dominating performances in Paulding County history, winning three individual events at the County Championships on March 18 in Dallas.

The senior won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05 seconds, the 200-meter dash at 22.14 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 7 inches.

“I worked hard and practiced a lot to do well at the meet,” Jones said. “I didn’t make some of my personal times but we performed well as a team overall.”

Jones won the two sprint events at the Pauding County meet last season but had a new experience with the long jump.

“My specialty is the 100-meter dash but the long jump was a new event for me suggested by my coaches and it’s the best I’ve ever done in that event,” he said.

The Spartans finished second overall in the boys’ team competition to North Paulding but have high hopes for the rest of the season.

Jones added that “we’re missing some top runners and will have enough points to win again once they return and compete for a region championship this year because we came in third last year.”

Jones also runs for the Sapphire Track Club based in Stone Mountain and is a member of the school’s yearbook club. He will attend Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. this fall.
