The Howard School’s Ely Klenzak has established quite the stellar reputation both inside and outside the classroom during his time there.

The senior has earned a 3.69 grade point average while holding down a full slate of extracurricular responsibilities.

The 17-year-old credits “staying on top of things” as the secret of his success.

“Once you begin to fall behind, things can snowball so you want to be ever-vigilant about what needs doing and when,” said Klenzak.

In addition to academic coursework, Klenzak is “deeply” involved with Howard’s Pet Club. The all-ages group raises money and performs charity work to aid local pet shelters and animals in need.

Others on the Howard campus have taken notice of the standout student’s hard work and selfless endeavors.

“I would describe Ely as a kind, inquisitive, caring, vivacious, creative young man who cares about learning and his fellow citizens at Howard,” said teacher Jon Fredericks. “He is sincere and has a general interest in conversation. … His creative and innovative spirit continues to flourish.”

Klenzak will next take his talents to Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta in the fall, where he plans to major in civil engineering. A bridge-building project he participated in at school steered him to that career path.

“Whether he is reassembling a broken bungee chair or disassembling a mini-fridge for parts, Ely never lacks interesting ideas,” Fredericks said. “I [would] recommend that he be cloned.”

Klenzak’s track record and potential make for a bright future. Staying on task, whether hitting the books or engaging in charitable work, is something that he has already mastered.

“Time prioritization is my main tool and this extends to my academic responsibilities as well,” he said.
