Third baseman Will Hudgins’ career at Dunwoody is over but he has plenty of baseball left in his future since he will suit up for Georgia Southern next year.

“The best thing about playing on the next level will be traveling, going to a lot of cool stadiums,” Hudgins said. “The team camaraderie will be good. I only know a couple of people on the team but they are basically having a blast.”

Hudgins, who plans to major in sports management or marketing and has a 3.5 grade-point average, also considered attending Georgia State, Middle Tennessee State, Belmont and Southern Mississippi.

“Georgia Southern is switching to the Sun Belt conference which is better competition,” Hudgins said.

An admirer of third basemen Evan Longoria (Tampa Bay Rays) and David Wright (New York Mets), Hudgins also held a batting average close to .400 during the regular season.

“I try to relax as much as possible,” Hudgins said. “I try not to worry and go off of what they give me. I try not to swing out of my shoes and do whatever I can to get the ball in play.”

Last Friday, the Wildcats, who won their second straight Region 6-AAAAA championship this year, lost 7-2 and 8-2 to Flowery Branch in the opening round of the playoffs.
