Freshman Taylor Farmer scored the biggest goal of the season for the North Paulding girls’ soccer team in its contest against Riverwood in the first round of the Georgia High School Association Class 5A playoffs on April 30. Farmer took a pass from teammate Madison Cornell and scored the game-winner as the Wolfpack emerged with a 1-0 home victory.

“The goal was scored after a buildup of combination passes,” Farmer said. “The victory was a team effort because their goalkeeper made some good saves but we kept taking shots until one went in.”

North Paulding lost its second round contest on penalty kicks to Heritage-Conyers 3-2 on May 7. Wolfpack won 12 matches this season and didn’t lose a contest against a fellow Paulding County foe.

The midfielder made the rare transition to thrive at the varsity level as a freshman.

“I noticed that the speed of play was faster because I was going against older players,” Farmer said. “You have to work a lot harder and concentrate on what you’re doing on the field.”

She will play for the Southern Soccer Academy club team this summer and plans to join the Beta Club at North Paulding next fall. Farmer will take sports medicine classes while in high school and pursue a career as a physical therapist to assist injured athletes.
