The Sandy Springs Police Department Tuesday announced in a news release Dr. Kelly Thrasher, arrested and charged with several criminal charges, has also been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Four pornographic pictures of a child were found on Thrasher’s laptop computer after a forensic examination, Sgt. Ron Momon, a police spokesman, said.
Thrasher was arrested May 21 in Miami by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. This task force, working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, received information lead-ing them to a Days Inn Hotel in the South Beach area of Miami. Thrasher was located and taken into custody in his hotel room without incident. He had about $30,000 cash in his possession.
May 28, Thrasher was transported back to Atlanta aboard a commercial airliner without incident. He was then transported to the Fulton County Jail on Rice Street upon arrival and had his first appearance hearing the followind ay at the jail.
Police announced May 18 it had issued criminal warrants for Thrasher, who is currently under criminal indictment in Fulton County for child molestation following a police investigation in November 2012.
In January, Thrasher was again arrested and charged by the state medical boards with practicing medicine without a license after the board received numerous complaints he was seeing patients in his office in violation of the medical board’s suspension of his license pending the disposition of the earlier cases.
