Paulding planners to consider cell tower, funeral home at Tuesday meeting

The Paulding County Planning Commission is set to consider requests for a cell phone tower, funeral home and two mini-storage facilities at its Tuesday meeting.

It also is set to consider amending the city of Hiram’s zoning ordinance to allow a building materials transfer station as a use within the light industrial zone.

Ron Crist of Crist Roofing and Construction is seeking the change to the zoning ordinance to add an “inert transfer station” – defined as a “fully enclosed facility” that will be used “to transfer materials received” which are limited to rock, wood, shingles, concrete, bricks, blocks, cardboard and wall board.

Such a facility would not receive household trash or anything that would contain asbestos or hazardous materials and petroleum products though “all plastic and vinyl products will be allowed,” the request stated.

Crist’s request includes a requirement for approval of a special use permit so any materials can be separated outside of an enclosed facility or area.

The commission will make its recommendation to the Hiram City Council, which would have the final say on the request.

The commission also will make recommendations to the Paulding County Commission after hearing requests from:

- Marshall Melvin for a special use permit for a 155-foot telecommunications cell tower on 48 acres zoned residential at 556 Old Sudie Road in south Paulding. The leased area for the tower is 6,400 square feet.

- Cecil Lawrence to rezone 4.5 acres at 4627 Villa Rica Hwy. from suburban residential district to neighborhood business district for a funeral home.

- Terry Decker to rezone about three-fourths of an acre from suburban residential district to neighborhood business district for small retail uses at 8485 Dallas-Acworth Hwy. near the Crossroads community.

- Scott Vanek for a special use permit on 7.2 acres on Bobo Road zoned as a highway business district for a mini-storage facility with RV, boat and vehicle parking.

- Keith A. Butler for a special use permit on 5.3 acres zoned as a highway business district for mini warehouses with RV, boat and vehicle parking. The property is located on the west side of Villa Rica Highway in south Paulding near White Oak Park.

The commission is set to meet Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Watson Government Building on Jimmy Campbell Parkway in Dallas.
